The success of the original ALEXX, launched in 2016, was perhaps a culmination of decades of design evolution at Wilson Audio. Dave Wilson had stepped back from an active role in product engineering to concentrate on his magnum opus, the Master Chronosonic WAMM, leaving son Daryl, in his new role as company president, to bring his own influence to bear on the product line.

Alexx proved to be an immensely successful loudspeaker, bringing the legacy of large Wilsons from decades past—the GrandSLAMMs, Alexandrias, and XLFs—into a room-friendly and accessible package.

But the eventual release of the new WAMM, followed by the Chronosonic XVX, meant that the landscape had changed once again. A new era of new materials, new drivers, and a new design language dictated a decade in which those elements would, of necessity, find their way into the rest of the Wilson product line.

So the designation of the letter “V” was born. It represents not a Roman numeral (ALEXX V is only the second version of the speaker), but rather a statement of vision around the implementation of that new design language and WAMM-derived technology.

The Alexx V product highlights include:

• A new tweeter, the Coherent Synergy Carbon tweeter, with an in-house 3D printed rear-wave chamber. The CSC offers far greater and more linear high frequency extension while providing unprecedented ambient retrieval and superior harmonic detail.

• The QuadraMag Alnico midrange from the XVX.

• The same 10” and 12” woofers from the XVX in a bass cabinet with 16% greater volume than the original ALEXX, which gives ALEXX V almost the same internal woofer volume as the Chronosonic XVX, hence much deeper low-frequency reproduction, faster transient settling, and an overall increase in bass resolution.

• The new V material, highly absorbent, nestled between the woofer cabinet and the gantry, and also used in the new acoustic diode spike system

• The strikingly open gantry design, not only architecturally beautiful, but offering greater rigidity, not to mention greater ease in setup and precise time-alignment of the upper modules.
